Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the top-streamed track within 6 months. In 2017, the single Despacito which was a mix of pop music with reggaeton, not only brought new interest to reggaeton but also brought more attention to Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish language, while the year 2016 featured four. The Despacito album reached its peak popularity in 2017, 19 tracks primarily composed in Spanish made it to the top 100. This number rose to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito came out in the year 2017. Soon after, pop stars began to collaborate with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018), and Madonna collaborated with Maluma to create Medellin. Some reggaeton artists have criticized the shift to mainstream music in the year 2020. However, a brand new band, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the development and growth of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted method.
